About Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a disease that is known to usually affect people who have high exposure to asbestos. This is a form of tumor that affects the stomach and other stomach parts of the body, especially mesothelial cells that are present in the organ. The treatment of this disease depends on the early diagnosis and the stage at which the patient is currently. Appropriate treatments may be recommended from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Type of Mesothelioma

There are mainly three types of Mesothelioma that can affect the human body, namely, Pleural Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Mesothelioma and Pericardial Mesothelioma.

Pleural Mesothelioma

This is the most common type that occurs at a high level. This results in mesothelial cells that divide abnormally and spread malignancy to the surrounding area resulting in complications from other organs in the body. In the case of Pleural Mesothelioma it is not cancerous and malignant can be removed surgically and is less risky. Whereas in that case, it turned out to be malignant it became very serious and tended to shorten the patient's life expectancy.

In such cases, there is an accumulation of fluid caused by tumors in the pleura. As the pleura starts thickening it reduces lung capacity and does not allow proper breathing. As a result of this, patients suffering from Pleural Mesothelioma find it difficult to do normal breathing. After the tumor begins to spread out into the chest wall and ribs, the patient also experiences chest pain. In addition, he also shows some common symptoms such as coughing, fever, fatigue, weight loss without obvious causes with loss of appetite. Pleural Mesothelioma treatment is a little complicated and difficult to achieve compared to other types.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma

This is the second most common type of Mesothelioma found in humans. Usually occurs when a patient is exposed to asbestos and is known to affect the peritoneal membrane. Patients suffering from this type of tumor show that most symptoms are similar to those with Pleural Mesothelioma. Symptoms are characterized by abdominal pain and swelling along with fever, weight loss resulting in fluid accumulation developing around the peritoneum.
The presence of Peritoneal Mesothelioma can be confirmed by conducting a biopsy even though X-rays and CT scans can prove useful in the initial diagnosis. Further microscopic analysis is carried out using special stains. Treatment can be given at this stage of diagnosis using a combination of chemotherapy, radio therapy or other surgical interventions to reduce the expansion of the spread of this tumor.

Pericardial Mesothelioma
This type of mesothelioma is the most common among all types of mesothelioma that attacks humans. As the name suggests it causes tumors in the pericardial membrane that form a layer to the heart. Symptoms are accompanied by chest pain, chronic cough and accumulation of fluid around the heart, palms together with similar symptoms as shown in other types of mesothelioma.

Compared to other types of Mesothelioma, this is less life-threatening as long as it is diagnosed on time with appropriate surgical intervention.

Treatment is generally used for Mesothelioma
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Operation
Some new treatments are used in treating Mesothelioma
  • gene therapy.
  • Immunotherapy.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • Non-chemotherapy drugs such as Veglin and Avastin.
Mesothelioma is a serious and life-threatening disease and early diagnosis can prevent further complications that can endanger the patient. Further medical research has been carried out to find a better solution to cure this terrible disease. has been tested and developed and maybe in the coming years hopefully an effective treatment must appear in curing Mesothelioma successfully.
